GM’s ISV Emerges Victorious from UAE Summer Trials

The Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) of GM Defense LLC, a subsidiary of General Motors (GM) has emerged victorious from the gruelling 2023 UAE Summer Trials.

Held over several days, these trials are a rigorous evaluation designed to push vehicles to their limits and determine if they meet the demanding technical and tactical needs of the UAE and other regional countries.

The UAE continues its evaluation post-vehicle exercise to officially recognise the completion status. The ISV received certification of completion stating the vehicle successfully passed Summer Trials following both phases of evaluation.

GM Defense’s ISV conquered all Summer Trials, covering nearly 2,000 kilometres over highways, sand dunes, and rocky terrain. These trials rigorously tested the vehicle’s performance in combat conditions, including extreme climates. In addition to mobility challenges, the ISV excelled in the Maintenance Trial, showcasing ease of repairs and long-term sustainability for potential customers.

Rapid Responder
The ISV is exceptionally engineered and sized to fulfil Army requirements for quick deployment. Offering high performance, reliability and safety upon arrival and mission employment, it is an expeditionary, ultra-light tactical vehicle that can be inserted on the battlefield through C-17, C-130 and A-400M low-velocity air drop, as an internal load in a CH/MH-47 Chinook and CH-53E/K Super/King Stallion or as a sling-load under a UH-60 Blackhawk.

The ISV can be customised with specialised ‘kits’ to meet specific customer needs, enhancing vehicle capabilities.

Triumphant Moment
Steve duMont, GM Defense president, explained: “Through completion of all phases, we’ve demonstrated that we can successfully leverage the advanced technologies of our parent company, General Motors, to deliver a highly capable off-road vehicle that can meet the needs of defence and government customers in the UAE and throughout the region.”

Bradley Watters, vice president of International Business Development, added: “I was on the ground with other ISV team members, supporting the vehicle as it travelled in deep soft sand, hard-packed surfaces and over rocks, successfully completing eight consecutive days of testing in extreme heat (132 degrees Fahrenheit/56 degrees Celsius). Completing all phases of the mobility and maintenance trial will help open the doors to new growth.”

The UAE Summer Trials coincide with GM Defense’s cooperative agreement with Tawazun Council, announced at the International Defence Exhibition and Conference in February 2023. This partnership aims to deliver advanced solutions in integrated vehicles, power and propulsion, and autonomy and connectivity to military and government customers in the UAE and the region.
